Acrylic mirror sheet, and what it does in a laser
Acrylic mirror is not a mirror in the glass sense: it is a clear or tinted acrylic sheet with a reflective coating on the back, protected by a film and a lacquer. That construction decides everything a laser owner needs to know about it, because the face and the back are different materials and the beam meets them in a fixed order. It is stocked by most of the plastics suppliers read for this site and priced by very few of them.

What the construction means for the work
- The reflective layer is on the back. A mirror sheet is clear acrylic with a coating applied to one face and then sealed. Engrave the coated side and the coating is what comes off; engrave the clear side and the beam passes through the acrylic first. Which face is up is not a preference, it is the difference between a clean reverse-engraved mirror and a ruined sheet, and the supplier's own product page is where the construction is described.
- Reflection is a machine question first. A polished reflective surface in the bed of a machine that emits a beam is a hazard before it is a material, and the sensible order is to read the supplier's safety data sheet and the machine maker's guidance before the price. This site does not publish settings for any material and does not tell anyone what is safe to cut; it records what suppliers publish and points at the document that governs.
- Who stocks it and who prices it. Mirror is a standard line: ePlastics lists mirrored plexiglass among its sheet categories, and it appears across the plastics stockists read here. Almost none of them print a figure for it, because mirror is sold cut to size like the rest of the sheet range. The published prices this site does hold for coloured and patterned acrylic run from $2.95 to $3.89 per sheet, and they are for plain coloured sheet rather than coated mirror.
- The film is not a defect. Mirror acrylic ships with a protective film on one or both faces, and on a coated sheet the film also protects the lacquer. Leaving it on through cutting is the usual advice from suppliers, and taking it off to check the material before you buy is how a shop ends up with a scratched sheet it cannot return.
Common questions
- Is acrylic mirror the same as glass mirror?
- No. It is a coated acrylic sheet, far lighter and far more impact resistant than glass, and the coating is a separate layer that can be damaged on its own.
- What does acrylic mirror sheet cost?
- None of the suppliers read for this site printed a figure for mirror specifically. The coloured and patterned acrylic prices they do publish run $2.95 to $3.89 per sheet.
- Can I put a mirror sheet in a laser?
- That is a question for your machine maker and the supplier's safety data sheet, not for this site. We record what suppliers publish and never publish settings.
