Anodised aluminium is the material behind most engraved name badges, asset plates and machine tags: aluminium with a hard, porous oxide layer grown on it electrochemically, dyed and then sealed. A laser does not cut it, it marks it, by ablating or bleaching that coloured layer to expose the metal underneath, which is why it is bought as sheared sheet rather than as stock to be cut on the bed. This site holds no published price for it, and that is a recorded fact rather than an omission: three supplier pages were tried on 11 September 2026 and none answered.

The colour is inside the metal, not on it

Anodising grows an oxide layer out of the aluminium itself, and dye goes into its pores before the surface is sealed. That is why an anodised finish does not chip off the way paint does, and why a laser mark in it is permanent: the beam removes or bleaches the dyed layer rather than adding anything to the surface. It also means the sheet arrives finished, so there is no post-processing step to price and no coating to buy separately, which is one reason a single sheet price would actually mean something here if anybody published one.

A laser marks it; it does not cut it

A CO2 laser will mark dyed anodised aluminium and will not cut aluminium at all; a fibre laser marks bare or anodised metal and can engrave into it. Either way the sheet is sheared or guillotined to size by the supplier or by the shop, not on the laser bed. That changes what is being bought: a stock size you can use as it arrives, rather than a large sheet to be broken down afterwards. Ask a supplier what sizes it shears to before comparing any figure it gives you, because two prices for two different finished sizes are not a comparison.

What it withstands, on the record

Horizons Imaging Systems Group publishes test results for its photosensitive anodised aluminium: no pronounced image loss after 7,000 cycles on an abrading wheel, readable up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit for the standard sheet and 800 for the image-intensified grade, no deleterious effect after a 720-hour salt-spray test, and no deterioration across three thermal-shock cycles between minus 65 and 125 degrees Celsius. That is one manufacturer's own published data for one product line, not a general claim about every anodised sheet, and its own page says users must test products in the environment they are expected to work in.

Nobody read here publishes a price

Three anodised-aluminium supplier pages were tried for this site on 11 September 2026. Two answered 404 and one failed in transport, so no figure was obtained and none is invented. It fits the pattern the rest of this board already shows: Rowmark, which makes engraving material across more than 3,000 products, answers the price question with Find A Distributor, because the engraving-metal trade sells through distributors rather than to the shop directly. When a supplier page does publish a figure it will be quoted here with its date, like every other figure on this site.
